At the 54th Annual International Aviation Snow Symposium on October 5th 2020 in Buffalo, NY; awards will be presented to the “Snow Crews” of the airports in the Snow Belt for their dedicated efforts in maintaining their airports in safe and operational status during the 2019 – 2020 winter season. This is the 44th consecutive year that such awards are presented. All categories of airports – Commercial, General Aviation and Military - compete for these awards.

Applications are submitted by the airport operators on behalf of the local work force in recognition of their efforts in keeping the airports operationally safe at all times. Recommendations for selection may come from the users of airports, airlines, pilots, general aviation, the military and the entire aviation community. In addition, the members of the Awards Selection Committee provide feedback from their own organizations as to the performance of competing airports.

Indianapolis International Wins EPA Award

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) with a Performance and Innovation in the SRF Creating Environmental Success (PISCES) award for its stormwater and deicing capacity project.

IAA collaborated with the Indiana State Revolving Fund Loan Program to fund a stormwater improvement project enhancing water quality treatment at Indianapolis International, EPA said.

A $30 million loan was used to install new stormwater and deicing runoff infrastructure that allows the expansion of impervious surface area for air carrier operations. Additional infrastructure improvements include the demolition of an undersized facility, construction of multiple storage structures, storm sewers, and pump stations.

AAAE Announces Three Recipients of Airport Innovation Awards

Alexandria, Va. – The Airport Innovation Accelerator – established by the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) as a hub for innovation to drive creative approaches and build airports of the future – today announced the winners of the 2019 Airport Innovation Awards, which are given to honor innovative developments that are a model for airports around the country.
